When I was a kid it was easy to find a team. My mom called my school and they pointed her to the
local soccer club. But as an adult it has always seemed hard to find a team unless I knew someone
that was already playing. Occasionally I would post my name to a bulletin board at an indoor facility,
but I never got any response from that.
When I finally organized my own team it was almost impossible to keep a solid roster of players that were
willing to show up and, more importantly, pay on a consistent basis.
It is frustrating to be on a team where you are the only good player. Likewise, it is also
frustrating to be on a team where you can’t keep up with the other players. I designed Soccer
Matchmaker to eliminate these issues. By having teams and players perform an honest assessment
of their skills, and then matching those skills via a computer program, the result should be a better
balance of players for a given team. It’s kind of like a dating service in that way...
Getting paid and making sure everyone shows up are two of the biggest issues facing any team manager.
To address this I built a few team management tools, which allow a manager to build a roster, track
payment, set up a game schedule, and send reminder messages to his team.
Your (and my) privacy is important to me. I’ve seen some leagues put a list of available players online,
including their name, e-mail address, and phone number. Unfortunately this information is available to
everyone with an Internet connection. I’ve addressed this issue by allowing players to hide their real
name from the player directory, and by managing all communication between players and teams. This
allows you to get messages without compromising your personal privacy.
I also wanted to make sure that this site is free for both teams and players. League registration
and field rental dues are ridiculously high right now and the last thing we need is to pay for
stuff that should be free.
If you have questions, comments, or ideas for how to make Soccer Matchmaker better
please let me know.
See you on the field,
PeterT
